I have always tried to have a healthy lifestyle, but at one point I asked myself - well, what does it really mean to be healthy......what does it mean to have a healthy lifestyle? Meanwhile stressful lifestyle has become a normal lifestyle for many of us, but do we ever ask ourselves whether having such a lifestyle is healthy? Or what such a life style is doing to our overall wellbeing in the long run? Or simply how it affects our life? There are so many studies, talking about the negative impact a stressful lifestyle has on our health overall. Or associate stressful lifestyle with depression, heart diseases, weakened immune system, migraines, and the list goes on and on.
I believe that being healthy and having a healthy lifestyle consists of so much more than just not being sick right at this moment. For me having a healthy lifestyle is about the nutrition choices I make every day, it is about taking care of my body through exercising and staying active, but also taking the time each day to meditate and get enough sleep.
In addition to all these things, for me having a healthy lifestyle comes down to being happy about who I am, what I am doing and where I am in my life. It is about being around people that give me positive energy & support me in achieving my goals, it is about enjoying each moment and staying positive, it is about believing in myself even if no one else does! It is about knowing and listening to my body at any given point, as well as about educating myself and figuring out what lifestyle makes me feel at my best!
I know that it is easier said than done - I believe that it is a constant and conscious work in progress, and the key to achieving this is simply being honest with ourselves at any given point and staying true to our believes and values. This can be very difficult sometimes because we feel stuck, or simply not in control of the situation, moment, etc. But the truth is that we always have the freedom to make a choice. Whether it will be to let go of people with negative influence (as hard as it might be), to have the strength to change directions, or simply follow your heart - at the end of the day it is up to us to make that choice!
Health is such a broad term and there are so many aspects to it, throughout the year Slow·o·lution will be touching on different topics related to health and healthy lifestyle. In the meantime we would like to hear from you - share with us what it means to you to be healthy and to have a healthy lifestyle.
