For many years my workouts consisted of jogging, mountain biking and hiking. So it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that up until last year I hadn’t heard of HIIT workouts. That’s when I became a Tone It Up member, as I felt that I need to diversify my workout routine a bit. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised, and meanwhile it is safe to say that HIIT workouts are one of my favorite form of workouts. So what is HIIT all about?
HIIT stands for high intensity interval training, and basically it means that you have periods of very intense cardio exercises, followed by recovery periods. This recovery periods could be inactive, as well as active. An active recovery period is where you perform a toning move in between the high intensity cardio move for example. To be honest, I know only the Tone It Up HIIT workouts, and there the intervals are anywhere between 15 to 30 to 60 seconds of each exercise. In general HIIT workouts are anywhere between 4 to max 30 minutes in duration.
I love it because it keeps your heart rate up throughout the entire workout. As a result, this type of workout burns more fat in less time. And the best part is that after a HIIT workout your body continues to burn calories throughout the day……now, who wouldn’t want that!? I personally do HIIT workouts at least twice a week, in addition to jogging at least four times a week, and a toning workout (targeting different part of my body) every single day…..as well as, some hiking and yoga:)
Obviously there are tons of HIIT workouts that you can find on the internet, but I can only suggest to go check out the toneitup.com HIIT workouts – they are a lot of fun and super effective……give it a try, and let me know what you think.
Stay healthy
